Progress on the album continues!
We’ve finished tracking (except for one more Sax line and a gang vocal or two), and we’ve moved all our gear back into our loft from the jam space we’ve been using to record the last two months.
The gear has landed back in the loft!
So Many Layers
Each song is incredibly dense and complex, and it’s a serious challenge to maintain maximum clarity of each and every layer. It’s not rare to be fighting with 15 guitar tracks, 2 basses, synth and about 8 different versions of myself Oohing, Aaahing and shouting in unison.
I’ve spent the last few months furiously laying down layers upon layers of guitar, vocals, and crazy effects madness. We’ve brought some friends along: there are Cellos, Saxophones, Glockenspiels and all sorts of other outside-the-box non-sense.
Bass + Fuzz = teh toanz!
Is gonna be a pretty good year, by my estimation.
Right now I’m holed up in a room with great big windows, filled to the brim with amplifiers, microphones, and various other implements of Noise.
By the end of the month, I plan to emerge with some solid proof of all these songs we’ve been carting back and forth across the country these last few years.
But before that, we’re hitting the stage!
Just wanted to let you in on the recording process here at Chez Cinéma, we’ve been hard at work recently getting ready for what’s looking like a busy fall!
First off, just over a month ago we moved back into the loft where it all started, and have been jamming on the regular in the exact same spot that the band was formed back in 2009. It’s a real pleasure being back here, and it’s been a crazy productive time as far as songwriting goes. We’ll be returning to the stage in Montréal at Casa Del Popolo on August 28th with Begin By Gathering Supplies and the Columbines from Chicago, and we’re hoping to have a couple of new ones ready to show off. Should be a fun night, I’ll be posting the poster (ha. ha.) in the next couple days, so stay tuned!
During the move, this happened:
"DIBS PLANKING'' - Chris Kavanagh
If I could explain, I would.
